Elenora Duse, Photographer: Unknown.
Lawrence Durrell (1912-1990) is best known for his The Alexandria Quartet
(1957-60), which chronicles from four perspectives a set of events
and people who circulate through Alexandria, Egypt in the years
before and during World War II. An admirer of Henry Miller and
Anais Nin, Durrell brought subtlety and eloquence to the exploration
of his characters' affairs.
